Spring into Summer Campaign

The ‘Spring into Summer’ initiative is a statewide effort to address the public health challenge of physical inactivity, a key contributor to chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Anchored in evidence-based programs, the initiative integrates the Move Your Way campaign (developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) with the Walk With Ease program (created by the Arthritis Foundation). The Move Your Way messaging will promote interest and awareness in physical activity and the Walk with Ease program is positioned to address needs by helping Iowans build behavioral skills and habits needed to adopt and sustain an active lifestyle.

Spring Into Summer - Goals and Objectives

  1. Integrate and amplify activities, connections and expertise of an array of state partners,
    organizations and companies to harmonize programming.

  2. Increase individual awareness about the importance of physical activity by disseminating
    Move Your Way materials.

  3. Provide opportunities for Iowans to develop skills and confidence to lead active lifestyles
    through the Self-Directed Walk With Ease program.

  4. Establish a scalable and sustainable model for evidence-based physical activity
    programming in Iowa - integrating quality improvement processes and annual evaluations
    to ensure.

Spring into Summer, Version 2025

The 2025 version of Spring into Summer was launched to help promote physical activity across the state of Iowa using a virtual Walk with Ease program. The pilot programming was conducted in collaboration with Healthy Iowans and the Healthiest State Initiative to build capacity for the future. The programming prioritized county level support mechanisms and we collectively reached participants in 18 counties with the average age of participants being 50 years old. This program has been successful in reaching a broader group of Iowans who are either working full time or live in rural areas.
